You’ve got to take a deep dive into the center of the pain, immerse yourself in it, the way you would immerse yourself in a foreign culture in order to learn its language, in order to not feel like an outsider, in order to ground yourself and get your bearings in your new environment.
We tend to recoil from pain, to at least keep it at arm’s length. This is a mistake. Pain can be a profound teacher. Its lessons tend to stick. Much of our personal growth and evolution starts here. (It’s not the only way to achieve it, but it’s A way.)
Allowing the pain to overcome you can be scary at first, like a giant wave approaching. Take a deep breath, go under the surface, where the world is muted; and when you’re ready for that next breath, pierce your way to the surface, triumphantly and confidently.
The only way out is through.
