GRIEF COUNSELING

When it comes to grief, there is no “getting over” or even “moving through.”

There is merely “being with.”

I am a Grief Recovery Specialist, with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I have also experienced big loss and big grief of my own. My education, training and life experiences have equipped me to listen to stories of loss with an open and compassionate heart, and without judgment. My mission is to guide and support you through your grief journey, to help you resolve your grief, and learn to live with it.

Typically, in our culture, when you experience a loss and you live with grief, people tell you to move on and let go, but they don’t tell you how.

Or worse…they say things like:

  • “replace the loss,” or
  • “be grateful your loved one is at peace, or with God, or no longer in pain,” or
  • “distract yourself from your pain by getting busy,” or
  • “time heals all wounds.”

None of this is helpful, no matter how well-intentioned.

  • I will never say these things to you.
  • I will create a safe space where you can have your feelings – no matter what they are. Trust me, I’ve either seen it all or experienced it myself!
  • We will address the unfinished business and unresolved feelings that have – in most cases – suddenly landed in your lap.
  • We will complete a process that resolves your grief.
  • You will make peace with your loss and be in a much better position to move forward.

My clients have experienced all types of losses. The death of a loved one is the most common, but the end of a relationship (divorce or breakup), and the loss of health are loss categories I am equipped to address with clients as well.

I also work with clients who have lost pets. Pet loss is sadly treated with a lack of sympathy often bordering on the cruel. If you have had to say goodbye to a pet, and no one seems to understand why you are so grief-stricken, or wondering why you aren’t “over it already,” you have come to the right place. Your grief over the loss of your pet will not be trivialized and you will be given tools to address this loss.

I work one-on-one with clients. We meet in my Zoom Room.

Sessions last 60-90 minutes. Unlike a typical appointment with a psychotherapist, I do not automatically end sessions at the 50-minute mark. Grief work is far too raw and emotional to tell a client, “Oops, sorry, our time is up.” So we aim for an hour, but allow for 90 minutes.

Contact me with any questions you may have. If you’re not sure this is what you need or whether the timing is right, let’s figure that out together. I offer free 30-minute consultations for this very purpose.

Consider giving yourself this gift of self-care, healing, peace, and the possibility of joy again in your future. You deserve it.
